Kids’ measuring guide

Use the tips & visuals in this guide to make taking your child's body measurements easy-peasy.

Dont have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Height

    Have your child stand in front of the fridge.Mark the top of the head with a magnet. Measure a straight line from floor to magnet.

  • Chest

    Have your child make airplane arms. Wrap tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping it level & snug.

  • Waist

    With your child bending to one side, measure the point where the waist flexes naturally. Keep the tape level & comfortably loose.

  • Hip

    Have your child stand like a tall tree with feet together. Measure a level line around the fullest part of the hips & seat.

  • Inseam

    Take a pair of pants that fit your child well. Measure along the seam from crotch to leg opening.

Child shorts that run large

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are cute shorts but extremely large on my three month old baby! My baby is wearing the 3-6 month size and I think these shorts would fit a 9-12 month child much more accurately. There is a draw string at the waist to adjust the size. The shorts are also sold in a variety of colors to choose from! They are made from organic material that is a bit stiff. I received an incentive to write this review.

Right waistband but long length

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are bizarre. They are extremely long, I guess because adult men shorts are longer than women’s shorts. Yet the waistband is so stiff and tight. It presses on my 3mo old’s belly. My baby is around 13lbs for reference. So waist runs small but length runs big. I am quite confused. Pockets on baby clothes always make me giggle I received an incentive to write this review.

tan shorts for toddler boys

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These hope and Henry tan shors are a little bit more on the longer side than we had wanted them to be. They are really cute and made with heavy duty material. I would say they are true to size as a 2T fits great and will also fit our little guy next summer as well. I like that they also have an elastic waist so they can be tightened as well. I received an incentive to write this review.

Cute but runs big khaki shorts

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered a size 1824 month in these pull on khaki shorts. I'm not sure if they are meant to be really long or if my son is just super short but I felt these ran very large. My son is 2.5yrs old and wears a 2t and he had plenty of room in the waist and length. The quality is great and the shorts are cute with the tie at the waist. Will be great when he turns 3. I received an incentive to write this review.
