Giving it 4 starts only because the magnet doesn't always catch the light easily, and you have to flip it. Still a wonderful gift that keeps my kid entertained.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Melissa & Doug Birthday Surprise Keepsake Box is not just cute but fun! It’s geared to toddlers ages 2-3 and that is quite on point! This toy is a creative way to practice muscle strength and control by blowing out the candle and fine motor skills by using the wand to pull up the called by the internal magnets. My 2 year old gets excited when the candle disappears! Sometimes the candle comes up on the first time with the wand, other time it takes a few tries which encourages patience and the ability to try again (and again!) if needed! The toy is brightly colored and easy for little hands to put together and take apart. The keepsake box is large enough to store all of the items inside, sans the plate, which is super convenient. It’s a wonderful toy that sparks imagination and provides a fun touch of magic that your little one is bound to enjoy!

The cake slice open so you can store the things in the slice. It comes with wand. Candle, icing container, sprinkles and plate. My son just loved it and plays with it a lot.

He probably spent an hour wanting us to sing happy birthday to him over and over again, opening up the cake, putting something inside, decorating, adding the candle, lighting it, repeat. It’s super cute and a nice size - not too big or small for a preschooler. I also loved that it’s easy to assemble and doesn’t require any batteries. My only reason for taking up a star is the magic wand to bring the flame of the candle up is pretty wonky. It works maybe 30% of the time. My son didn’t seem to care though and still had fun pretending to blow it out even without a flame. Great toy especially for imagination play.

She put everything together by herself and figured out how to play with it really quick. She loves the whole experience of “lighting” up the candle and blow it. She also brings it to her guests to celebrate them. She figured out how to use the accessories to decorate her cake. This is a great addition to any pretend play kitchens, imaginary play. The cake has storage for keepsake, we use it to store accessories, it is pretty large, enough to store a piece of baby clothes. Super colorful and fun!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The “candle-lighting” is trickier than it seems. It requires some fine motor and problem solving skills to have the flame stay lit. My oldest got it after a few tries and the younger one is still figuring it out. Overall a fun pretend experience for them together.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It’s very cut and easy to assemble. My daughter loves using the magic wand to make the fire appear and then making a wish and blowing it out. It’s a great way to teach kids how to blow out the fire, without them getting scared from an actual fire. It’s also big enough to hold all of the things it comes with, except the plate. Or she could use it to hold all of her small toys that her brother loves to lose.

The wooden pieces are sturdy, colorful, and really well made. He loves ‘cutting’ the cake slices apart with the little wooden knife and putting the candles/decorations on over and over. It’s great for imaginative play, practicing sharing/turn taking, and even fine motor skills. I also appreciate that it doesn’t make noise or need batteries. The rainbow design is adorable and the pieces hold up really well to everyday play. Definitely one of the better quality pretend play toys we own. I do think the price is too high but that's just my opinion.

My kids loved to pretend to decorate the cake, blow out the candles, and eat the cake. However, using the wand to get the candle to stay up is not the easiest even when following the instructions of lifting and tilting. I love that the toy is wood instead of plastic which makes it much more durable. Overall, this is a cute toy for all ages and allows your children’s imagination to run wild
