Best in class features at expense of battery life
Upgraded from the inReach Explorer. Mini 3+ is still the best option for features and safety, but battery life is significantly worse. Even minimizing the brightness and GPS modes, it lasts a couple days at most, whereas the old Explorer lasted over a week.

Great little transceiver
It’s a great product and works very well. Pictures and text messages work great. Tracking features are too notch. The battery is very unimpressive. I can’t envision a scenario where you could possibly get the claimed 14 day 10 minute tracking claim.

Peace of Mind
I got the inReach for my hikes on the PCT. I'm no thru hiker, but bite off multi-day sections of the WA and OR trail as often as I can. The inReach has been a great peace of mind for me, and my spouse who does not come with me.

Great satellite communicator - highly recommended
Great satellite communicator. Connects to GPS constellation quick with good performance. I primarily carry the inReach Mini 3 PLUS for SOS emergencies, if or when needed. I very seldomly use my inReach communicator to send/receive photos or voice messages, I use it only for the occasional very short text message or check-in messages. I originally had the inReach Mini 3 configured to performance mode (default) which drains the battery fast (about 4 days of battery life). Performance mode is designed to be used for sending photos and voice messages, and more frequent check-in messages (every two minutes) -- which I do not typically use. After switching to low power mode I got much better battery life (about 15 days). The screen is more user friendly and intuitive to use than my older "square" inReach Messager (not the mini-series). It took me a while to figure out the correct sequence of actions to remove my old inReach Messenger from my Garmin satellite messenger plan and replace it with the new inReach Mini 3, and then set it up to enable inReach remote (IR) on my Garmin Fenix/Tactix watch -- unfortunately you cannot change the configuration and IR connection unless you have Internet connection. So for the first day while hiking in the wilderness I had to use the inReach Mini 3 directly using the on-screen menu and buttons to control and I could only change the settings once I got back to "civilization" and had Internet connectivity. So, just be aware to test everything after making changes before heading out into the wilderness... ;-) I plan on getting the dive case for the inReach Mini 3 so I can take the inReach with me when we go SCUBA diving, in case we get lost at sea or left behind by the dive boat - just as a backup... :-)

Significant improvement in many ways.
This is a significant improvement over previous versions. The higher transmit power makes a significant difference in time to transmit messages (in my experience). The ability to transmit a photo is a significant upgrade as well. Finally, the user interface is much improved over early versions of the Mini and battery life is signigicantly improved as well. Great product and worth the upgrade.

Huge upgrade from Explorer+
I am a Park Ranger in Alaska that spends many weeks in the backcountry. I use my inReach primarily for communication - not for mapping or tracking. I have previously used an inReach Explorer+. While that device was great - this was a massive upgrade. Extremely lightweight, small, incredible battery life, and sends messages at almost the same speed as my iPhone. The voice notes and photos are a fun upgrade, as well. Was well worth the purchase for a device that is leaps and bounds beyond its earlier predecessors.

Overkill for me, should have gone messenger plus
I probably should have gone with the messenger plus, the onscreen navigation is poor, and I’m using apps on my phone instead anyway…but I guess piece of mind if I drop/break my phone. From 5:30am Thursday to Noon Sunday, battery went from 100% to 83% in Yosemite. I did turn it off at night, kept it on my pack at 45 degrees F. Sent 1 check in message a day. Started activities but didn’t send tracking updates as I have the cheap monthly subscription

even better than expected
I bought this for back country skiing and mountain biking. I was mainly interested in the SOS features, but the activity tracking, MMS messaging over satellite, mapping features, weather reports, and the ability to do live GPS tracking were all added bonuses that have been great to use so far. Plus the battery life is very long, so you can stay out for many days and not worry about needing to charge it. Also the satellite connection is much better than smart phones that claim to do satellite messaging as well.

I Love this new Mini and other criticisms :-)
Greatly improved from the Mini 2, the interface is easier to use. Yet, I continue to wish Garmin would incorporate a more Apple type approach with the interface. The engineers at Garmin are amazing but they need some human input. Second, the maps should be much more detailed, that the feature is included is a benefit but not much use, not unlike having a poorly fitting shoe and changing it's shoelaces. That said, I love my Mini 3 and it's capabilities, the peace of mind for me and my wife when I am in the wilderness. My colleagues and I are aging, having SOS capabilities is beneficial to everyone. One feature that is missing yet included with the Mini 2 is the ability to send my exact coordinates to fellow hikers and backpackers via text. For times when we hike at different paces we could send coordinates of our exact camp location to others with inReach capabilities. Let's hope Garmin gets the message and adds that into a firmware update.

Exceptional performance
I bought the the mini 3 Plus as a replacement for the SpotX device with a built in keyboard. While I will say that typing out a message with the SpotX is easier, the combination of lightening fast message sending, built in weather app, and easing blue tooth connection makes the 3 Plus the better of the two by a miles shot.

Buyer, be aware!
So far, the mini 3 plus has not been holding power for more than 4 days. Mine is brand new, no idea why this happens. The mini 2 battery could last for weeks on standby. Not very happy with it so far.

Disappointed in Garmin
Very disappointed Garmin will not allow pictures to be sent to social media or emails Or cellphones to people that don't load the Garmin app. The device itself is nice.

Really good Device, but can use some improvements.
I picked up the Garmin inReach Mini 3 Plus about a month ago, and overall I’m genuinely impressed with what this little device delivers. For anyone who spends time on the trail, in the backcountry, or simply wants reliable two-way communication when you’re beyond cell range, this is a serious piece of kit. The two-way satellite messaging works exactly as advertised — fast, dependable, and reassuring to have when you’re in areas with zero cell coverage. The SOS functionality gives real peace of mind, and the device pairs seamlessly with the Garmin Explore app on your phone for an enhanced experience. Battery life is excellent for its size, and the compact, rugged form factor means it easily clips to a pack or fits in a pocket without adding noticeable bulk. That said, there is one area where I feel Garmin is leaving performance on the table: the maps. For a premium device at this price point, the onboard mapping detail is underwhelming. Trail detail, terrain features, and general cartographic depth don’t match the level you’d expect given what you’re paying. When you’re navigating in unfamiliar terrain and relying on the device’s built-in maps, the lack of detail can be a real limitation. The Garmin inReach Mini 3 Plus is a very good satellite communicator — reliable, compact, and well-built. But with more detailed and robust mapping, it could easily be a great one. If you primarily need satellite messaging and SOS capability, it absolutely delivers. Just don’t count on it as your sole navigation tool until Garmin improves the map quality.

inReach Mini 3 Plus
The inReach Mini 3 Plus was purchased primarily as a non-cellular dependent rescue transponder. It works very as standalone navigator and communicator via SAT phone. It links flawlessly to cellphone apps like Car Play and other Garmin devises. In my case a Garmin Nuvi. I am an avid motorcyclist who finds himself in remote places all over North America and this is by far the best set-up with current available technologies. Peace of mind knowing I can seek help if needed anywhere on earth is what I seek.

Works at Sea
It does what it says, off shore communication was smooth and easy, works well with a smart phone which makes it much easier.

Great device
I love this device. I am doing a long distance hiking trip and it is great to know that I can let my partner and friends know where I am even without cell coverage. Just makes those lonely scary nights feel better.

Worth every penny!
Took my in reach on a hunt for 10 days in Montana in the Bob Marshall Wilderness and was able to keep in touch so well with my family that it didn’t even feel like I was out of phone service. I was also able to keep track of up to date weather forecasts to plan out our days. This thing was worth every penny and it will be an item that I never leave at home!

Would not leave on an outing without this device. However, one better learn the nuances of this device because it is not intuitive...other than the SOS button, which in the end is the ONLY reason to own it.
