About this item

Highlights

  • MB 04 Low Port Mouthpiece: Features a 1/4" port that provides mild tongue relief and rotates onto the tongue to apply gentle pressure without the painful "nutcracker" pinch of traditional joints.
  • Independent Side Movement (ISM™): The revolutionary center barrel allows each side of the bit to move independently, enabling precise, isolated signals for bending, lifting, and balancing.
  • Dee Ring with Hooks: Includes integrated slots for the headstall and reins to stabilize the bit in the mouth and provide indirect action for more sophisticated training signals.
  • Sweet Iron and Copper Inlay: Designed to oxidize and create a sweet taste, these materials promote salivation and a moist, responsive mouth for better bit acceptance.
  • Generous 5-Inch Sizing: Built with Myler’s "Measure Large" rule, this 5" bit actually measures 5 1/4" to ensure the Dee rings sit comfortably away from the horse's face.
  • Level 2 Training Design: Specifically engineered for horses with a steady disposition who are learning to break at the poll or transitioning from basic Level 1 training.
  • Durable Stainless Steel Construction: High-grade stainless steel cheekpieces ensure long-lasting durability and a professional finish for schooling, jumping, or western performance.

Description

Transition your horse to a new level of responsiveness with the Myler MB 04, designed to eliminate resistance through superior tongue relief and independent movement. This Level 2 bit fosters a softer, more willing partner by replacing the pinching of traditional snaffles with clear, refined communication.Expertly crafted from high-quality stainless steel, this bit features Myler’s signature sweet iron mouthpiece with copper inlays to encourage salivation and bit acceptance. The patented Independent Side Movement (ISM™) technology allows for isolated rein aids, making it an essential tool for riders looking to lift a shoulder, refine lateral flexion, and achieve a more balanced outline during training or competition.Key Features & Specifications: Frequently Asked Questions:Q: Why does this 5" bit measure slightly larger than standard bits?A: Myler bits are intentionally designed to measure 1/4" larger (5 1/4" for this 5" model) to provide the necessary clearance for the Dee rings, preventing them from rubbing or pinching the horse's sensitive facial skin.Q: Do the hooks on the Dee ring add leverage to the bit?A: No, the hooks are designed for stability and refinement rather than leverage; the top hook secures the bridle position while the bottom hook allows for indirect rein action and enhanced Independent Side Movement.Q: Is the Myler MB 04 with hooks legal for all disciplines?A: While highly versatile for Hunter/Jumpers and Western Performance, the presence of hooks generally makes this specific bit illegal for USEF/FEI Dressage; it is best used for training or disciplines where hooks are permitted.Item Number/SKU: 89-22045

    Great design

This is the second Myler bit I've purchased this year. My horses respond so well to them and immediately become more relaxed and athletic. It makes riding even that much more fun.

    Immediate improvement

I bought this bit for my 4 yr old OTTB after researching the mechanics of bit pressure on the tongue vs. bars, and found it to be an immediate improvement in how he accepts the bit and rein pressure. It also gives me the ability to lift his shoulders when necessary and lateral flexion is improved; he doesn't brace or pull against my hand as he did in other non-ported bits.

    Mild and comfortable

My horse has a sensitive mouth and this bit did not pinch or hurt her. She is now more trusting with the bit and goes perfectly in it. Myler is a really good company!

    Horse hated it

I purchased this Myler bit with some hesitation, as I've heard mixed reviews over the years. Knowing Smartpak is an excellent company I had little to lose. Nonetheless I hoped it would be a wonderful buy. My young horse, however, absolutely hated this bit. First of all, they all sit way too wide. Secondly there was no comfortable place in his mouth for him to hold it. If I used just a little contact, he braced against it. If I took up more contact, he got behind the bit to avoid the contact. He left me with no feel at all in my hands. He chewed and tossed it around in his mouth. I could not find a soft feel anywhere with this bit. After 3 tries or so I returned it to Smartpak and they graciously accepted it back. I will never buy a bit like this again!

    Pony approved!

I decided to purchase the Myler Level 2 Dee with Hooks after seeing how well my friends horse went in it and after how impressed I was when she loaned it to me. My gelding is a good guy for the most part but has his fussy moments (he's 5 and a tb). I had been riding him in my Myler Dr. Bristol until now. He's doing great in this bit-even while jumping where he tends to get strong in between jumps (where I was riding him in a eggbutt gag just to get him to listen). Just a gentle squeeze (put your hands in a fist and squeeze your ring fingers lightly) and he comes back to me willingly. He feels very relaxed underneath me and I feel that my hands are lighter. I love my Myler bits and even with the $90 pricetag I believe that this was a good investment for my gelding. One thing I do notice about the Mylers is they seem to run a little large and I've had several people remark on it too. I ordered the 5" to fit my gelding who is about a 5 1/4" mouth in my HS loosering and other bits. One of my other Myler bits is a 5 1/2" and fits like a 5 3/4".

Myler Low Port Dee with Hooks

My horse is comfortable in and goes well in this bit. I had tried a variety of bits and he seems to go in this one best. I was new to the notion of the hooks and curb chain on what looks sort of like a D-Ring snaffle (this type of bit is popular for AQHA) -- basically turns it into sort of a Kimberwicke like leverage bit, but am surprised how well my horse goes in it. I think the curved mouth is very comfortable for him.

    Picky mare likes it!

My picky mare likes this bit, works nicely in it and has even started to accept the bit while bridling better. She used to clamp her teeth and fight when bridling and now she is much softer and opens right up. Myler has a great system this bit seems to be one of the good all-around ones.
