About this item

Highlights

  • Independent Side Movement (ISM): Features a central barrel that acts as a bushing, allowing the rider to move each side of the bit independently to isolate one side for precise bending or lifting a shoulder.
  • 5.5" Wide Barrel Design: Offers a larger surface area for pressure distribution across the tongue, making it significantly milder and more comfortable than narrow-barrel alternatives.
  • Ergonomic Curved Mouthpiece: Anatomically shaped to wrap gently around the bars and lips, eliminating the painful pinching common with traditional jointed snaffles.
  • Integrated Copper Inlays: Embedded strips of copper promote natural salivation and a relaxed jaw, encouraging the horse to stay soft, moist, and responsive to your rein aids.
  • Durable Stainless Steel Dee Rings: Provides a stable, secure fit that won't rotate excessively in the mouth, offering the direct-action communication necessary for green or sensitive horses.
  • Competition Legal Status: Fully approved for USEF, FEI, and USEA dressage competitions, ensuring you can train and compete with the same high-performance equipment.
  • Level 1 Training Designation: Specifically designed for horses just starting their education or those with sensitive mouths and "fat tongues" who require maximum tongue relief.

Description

Unlock a new level of responsiveness and relaxation by replacing the harsh "nutcracker" action of traditional bits with the ergonomic design of the Myler MB 02. This competition-legal snaffle is the ultimate foundation for building a soft, willing partnership based on clear communication and unparalleled tongue relief.Engineered as a Myler Level 1 mouthpiece, the MB 02 is meticulously crafted from high-grade stainless steel with strategic copper inlays designed to stimulate salivation and bit acceptance. Its signature wide barrel design and curved mouthpiece work in harmony to distribute pressure evenly across the tongue and bars, preventing the pinching and discomfort that often lead to head tossing or resistance.Key Features & Specifications: Frequently Asked Questions:Q: How do I ensure the correct fit for the 5.5" Myler MB 02?A: Myler bits are intentionally manufactured to measure approximately 1/8" larger than their stated size. This 5.5" bit is designed to provide a slight overhang of 1/8" to 1/4" on each side, ensuring the bit clears the horse’s lips comfortably and allows the Independent Side Movement to function without pinching.Q: Is this bit suitable for disciplines other than dressage?A: Absolutely. While it is a staple in the dressage arena, the MB 02's gentle action and clear communication make it a favorite for Hunter/Jumpers, Western Pleasure, and trail riders who want to move away from restrictive bits toward a more harmonious connection.Item Number/SKU: 89-21027

Initially seemed big, but actually fits well

I needed a bit to start my mustang under saddle and love my Myler for my other horse so I thought I'd give their level 1 a try. She sizes right at 4.75" (maybe even closer to 5"), but I was worried when I saw how much was coming out of her mouth. After talking with a Myler professional they assured me that's how they're supposed to fit. We've done a handful of rides so far and she seems to like it! I love the large D, which acts a little like a full cheek, perfect for introducing steering. I'm also happy that it will never fold in half and crush her bars - I don't need to worry about her being in pain while she's just learning the basics. I also can see that the independent movement of each side will really help fine-tune her movements as she progresses in her training.

    I'm Impressed!

My OTTB jumper has been through several bits and this is his favorite by a long-shot! I have breaks, but I can be incredibly soft in his sensitive mouth. The first time I jumped in it, he went around like an equitation horse, instead of taking the bit rushing around like he was previously doing. I love how it does not interfere with the horse being able to swallow as well. I feel that that is a huge part of allowing him to relax. If you're thinking of trying it, it's worth the investment.

    Amazing!

Just got this bit in the mail and used it about twice on my gelding now. Its a subtle bit but it makes my horse more responsive to smaller hand signals than his old bit.

    A bit she likes!

I love how this Myler doesn't fully collapse, is gentle on the mouth, and has large D-rings that don't pinch! This is a WONDERFUL bit, and the bit I'd want if I were a horse. A bit that your horse likes is something you can't put a price on. But don't take it from me. Here's a story for you: Little did I know that many of my mare's "undesirable behaviors" stemmed from tack that was ill-fitting, she didn't like, or she wasn't ready for. Her old bit was a just a standard loose-ring, single-joint snaffle. I thought it didn't get any more simple and gentle than that. And yet (without me even touching the reins) she pulled, open-mouthed, and fussed with the bit. We never achieved anything close to a steady and quiet horse-rider connection. I thought she was just getting accustomed to everything, but it happened again and again. She was fine in just a halter (which was great practice anyway.) And though I made excuses for her, I never thought to try a different bit (which now seems like a huge 'duh!') When a friend and mentor came back into my life with this (correctly sized) Myler, my mare was sold on it within seconds! She chewed on it, then settled right down to being quiet in mouth and mind. And it's been that way ever since! By catering to her comfort in tack, she's given me a whole new horse (at her 19 years of age) that is willing to learn and happy to be present and participating in what we're doing. She's finally having fun! Thanks Myler!

    comfortable for my horse

This bit came recommended by my Parelli instructor. I have been riding without a bridle but now am going to begin finesse which requires contact. My horse has taken to it right away.

    NOT a gimmick!

My horse has always resisted contact, even with the trainer. She has a small, halter horse head, and has always gone in a single-jointed egg butt snaffle. I thought this bit was worth a try, as SmartPak has free return shipping. Now, my horse is SEEKING contact, and not sucking back every time I pick up the outside rein. Worth every cent.

Perfect bit for us at the best price!

My trainer suggested I get this bit for all 3 of my horses because it is so effective in communication between rider and horse as well as being very kind to the horse's mouth. I have 3 very different types of horses and it is working well for everyone! Thank you to SmartPak for offering this bit at the lowest price I could find anywhere!

    Works!

I bought this bit to try in my four year old mare who did not like constant light contact on her mouth with a regular D-ring snaffle. She is now more accepting of contact and pulls less on my hands.

    Myler: Check your sizing!

I love the 5" Myler Level 1 loose ring bit I used with my last horse. Now I have a pony who consistently needs a 4-3/4" mouthpiece, so I was excited to see that the same bit with Dee ring comes in that size--and terribly disappointed that it was much too big for her. It stuck out of both sides of her mouth by at least 1/4" each side, and when I compared it to my 5" Myler it was even bigger than that. And Myler doesn't seem to have it in a smaller size. Upshot: It's going back and I'll settle for something else that fits her. I would recommend this bit to a friend--but I would warn her to be sure to check the fit before deciding to keep it. I'm giving it an average rating because of this.
