Q: Currently in the thinking about it stage. How many months before trying should I start prenatal vitamins?

submitted by Denise - 2 years ago
  • A: You should start prenatal well before you get pregnant, so anytime is good

submitted byEducator - 1 year ago
  • A: Thanks for reaching out, Denise! Research shows that it takes time to reach optimal nutrient levels for conception, and taking a prenatal vitamin at least three months before conception is ideal. Let us know if we can help with anything else!

Q: Is this third party tested for pesticides and heavy metals?

submitted by Just reviewing - 3 months ago
  • A: Hi there! At Ritual, our products are manufactured in accordance with the FDA’s current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), which help ensure quality and safety. We take serious measures including conducting rigorous third-party testing on every batch with world-class organizations, such as Eurofins and IEH Laboratories. Our third party tests each batch for heavy metals, microbes, allergens, and other contaminants, helping to ensure our products are compliant within current guidelines and regulations. We're here if you have any other questions!

Q: Will this product help with hair growth if not pregnant?

submitted by curiousgeorge23 - 7 months ago
  • A: Thanks so much for your question! Our Essential Prenatal is formulated to support nutrient needs during pregnancy and preconception, and while many of the included nutrients play important roles in overall wellness, it isn’t designed or studied for hair growth benefits outside of those life stages. If hair support is your primary goal, we’d recommend checking in with your healthcare provider for guidance on what might be most appropriate for your needs. We’re also happy to share ingredient details with them if that’s helpful.

Q: How many milligrams of folic acid does this have?

submitted by Jackie - 8 months ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out! To clarify, we don’t include folic acid in our products, but we do include methylated folate. Our prenatal contains 1000 mcg DFE of methylated folate (5-MTHF), the active form of folic acid—in fact, folic acid is actually converted into 5-MTHF in the body. They are different forms of the same nutrient (folate) that both help support adequate folate levels in the body, a key determinant in healthy neural tube development.* The RDI for folate in pregnancy is 600 mcg DFE. The US Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends a daily supplement of 400–800 mcg folic acid for all women who are planning or capable of pregnancy.” (400-800 mcg of folic acid is the equivalent of about 667 to 1333 mcg DFE—making our dose of 1000 mcg DFE right in the middle). We're confident in this decision relying on the latest scientific research as well as research and claims from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the steward of national nutrition research, and the FDA. As part of this, there is significant scientific evidence that demonstrates that 5-MTHF promotes folate levels in the body the same or greater than folic acid supplementation.

Q: Can this product help with hair growth for women over 50?

submitted by SJ - 1 year ago
  • A: Thanks so much for reaching out! While our Essential Prenatal wasn’t formulated specifically to support hair growth, it does contain key nutrients, like Folate, Iron, and Omega-3 DHA, that can play a role in supporting overall health during pregnancy and postpartum, when hair changes are common. For women over 50 looking for hair support, we’d recommend checking out our Essential for Women 50+ multivitamin, which is designed to help fill nutrient gaps common in that life stage. If hair health is a top concern, pairing a multivitamin with a targeted hair support supplement (such as one that includes biotin or other clinically studied ingredients) could be helpful, but we always recommend checking with your healthcare provider to find what’s best for your unique needs.

Q: I have seen this product has been tested positive for lead. Has that been resolved?

submitted by Mari - 1 year ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out! We take the safety and quality of our products extremely seriously. Here is a little background on how we handle testing for and aim to reduce the risk of high levels of heavy metals (as a reminder, no brand intentionally adds heavy metals to its products). Our testing: Managing trace levels of heavy metals, including lead, is complex. As part of our rigorous testing, we conduct third-party testing on every batch of our products through IEH Laboratories, a global leader in product and food testing, who independently tests each batch for heavy metals (including lead) to ensure they fall well below the most stringent regulatory requirement for our industry which is California’s Prop 65 (50 ppb for lead), as well as allergens and microbes. Third-party certification: Our products also undergo third-party testing through the Clean Label Project, which is considered one of the strictest certifications addressing contaminants, including heavy metals like lead. Essential Prenatal has received the Clean Label Project Certification and its Purity Award, which is reserved for products with the lowest levels compared to their peers. Transparency: We aim for a leading level of transparency in the industry. Our visible supply chain allows customers to see for themselves the work we do to partner with ingredient suppliers that work hard to reduce the risk of contaminants to the degree possible, knowing that it’s impossible to reduce heavy metals, including lead, to zero. Education & Advocacy: Ritual knows it’s impossible (even if we wish) for any brand to be lead-free entirely, so we openly educate consumers about heavy metals. We are also one of the only supplement brands openly lobbying Congress, asking them to establish heavy metal limits for supplements and protein powders. Our program’s current detection limit is standard for our lab and the supplement industry at <.01ppm; however, we are actively working to try and lower the detection limit for our testing. We are always striving for continuous improvement and transparency. You can see the testing conducted on Ritual’s products through our Certificate of Traceability.

Q: Is it a bad thing to take out the rubber piece that says “this stays in the bottle, k”?

submitted by JR - 1 year ago
  • A: Great question! That little insert that says “this stays in the bottle, k?” is actually a food-grade silicone tab infused with a small amount of essential oil—it’s there to help support the overall smell and taste experience of the product. You're absolutely welcome to remove it if you prefer. It’s not harmful and won’t affect the quality or efficacy of the product itself. Just a little detail we include to make your daily ritual a bit more enjoyable!

Q: Are these ones easier to take than the mint essence ones? The mint ones made me gag and I could get them down my last pregnancy.

submitted by Mk2023 - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi there! We completely understand that taste and smell sensitivity can be heightened during pregnancy. Some customers have found it helpful to: -Remove the tab from the bottle and leave the cap off for a few hours to let the scent dissipate. -Take the capsules with food or a flavored beverage. We hope this helps!

Q: Do you recommend taking any other vitamins that are necessary for optimal pregnancy health on top of this vitamin? (Things like DHA or B vitamins?) Or, does it include everything you'll need?

submitted by M - 1 year ago
  • A: Great question! Our Essential Prenatal is thoughtfully formulated with 12 key nutrients to support pregnancy, including Folate (as methylated folate), Iron (as ferrous bisglycinate), and Omega-3 DHA from vegan algal oil. These ingredients are included based on what most pregnant women tend to miss through diet alone. That said, every body is different—and depending on your unique needs or health goals, some people choose to supplement further. We always recommend checking in with your healthcare provider to personalize your routine based on your individual needs 💛

Q: How long can I keep open bottle without product can be spoiled?

submitted by KL - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi! Once opened, Essential Prenatal can be stored safely until the expiration date printed on the bottle, as long as it's kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. Proper storage helps maintain the product’s quality and effectiveness. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

    Unethical

They automatically sign you up for reoccurring payments. They automatically started sending me a two month supply every month! Doesn’t make any sense. They are refusing to refund or allow returns of any kind.

Two pregnancies, two very healthy and smart babies!

I took this prenatal during two of my three my pregnancies and I believe that the Ritual prenatal is the best out in the market! I had low folate levels in my first pregnancy and lost the baby, but did not experience that with the following two pregnancies while taking Ritual. Both of my kids are super smart, and while that is likely genetics, I would like to think a small part of that is also due to taking a quality prenatal vitamin.

    Reviewing the experience

I purchased this item quite a few times and this time around I had to drive to a different location that’s further away from me ( federal way, wa) I did a drive up and got the vitamins and consumed them as I was heading home. Vitamins tasted odd and I checked the back it was 6 months expired. Rushed home tried vomitting it out it didn’t work. I’m pregnant and I consumed expired vitamins and panicked. The best they could do was refund and didn’t think that me requesting a store credit at least for this ridiculous experience was reasonable. Horrible experience. For people purchasing this don’t make the same mistake and check the expiration because the store seems to not care since it’s 6 months expired and still on the shelf.

    Start before pregnancy! Stay nausea-free!

During pregnancy, I never got sick if I take these each day, but I also took it everyday for prior to pregnancy to prepare my womb to be a good home. This is my second pregnancy, twins, and all is going well so far.

    The numbers don’t lie

I have had chronic anemia for years. My drs prescribed different brands of iron, but my blood numbers weren’t improving so my drs were worried. I kept having to have iron IVs. I had most recently tried this vile brown liquid that smelled like pennies and made my stomach so upset with no results. I decided to try the prenatal Ritual for a month. I figured as long as we were trying everything, why not. But it worked! I think I’m still surprised. I went 6 months longer before I needed an iron IV again that first time, but it also seems to be gradually improving over time as well. My skin got better, my stomach got better, my hair and nails got better. I consider it an investment in my daily wellbeing, cause when I feel better and have more energy, I can handle everything else better—and get fewer IVs, which is a plus.

    Makes prenatal vitamins easy

I have been taking these for almost a year while TTC. I’m not a fan of taking pills so the less pills I have to take, the better. I really like that Ritual combines everything you need into one compact pill. They also take out the guess work and research you’d need to do on your own to make sure you’re taking the correct prenatal vitamins. I like the subscription service so when you need a new bottle, it’s already arrived to your house.

My favorite prenatal vitamin for over 3 years now!

I’ve been taking this prenatal for close to 4 years now. I took it prior to my pregnancy, during, and still take it 8 months postpartum. I love that it doesn’t taste bad and truly think it has provided endless benefits throughout the different stages of my life. I recommend it to all of my friends. One benefit in particular is how quickly my hair is growing back after PP hair shedding. 10/10 I’ll be taking this for life!

Hi Gia! We’re sorry to hear you had this experience. Our Omega-3 DHA is sourced from vegan algal oil, which can have a naturally briny scent. While many omega-3 oils go through a deodorization process, it’s difficult to eliminate these flavors and aromas completely. If helpful, some customers find that taking their prenatals with food or in the evening helps reduce aftertaste. We appreciate your feedback and will be sure to share it with our team.

    2 pills wins!

Love that the prenatal has so many key nutrients all in two pills. I used to take the needed prenatal, but once I got pregnant, I couldn’t stomach as many pills as that brand required (even though it was totally fine before pregnancy). Removing one star from Ritual because the Choline levels are lower than I would like (easy to make it up in daily egg intake) and the fishy burps ~1hr after taking the pills are nasty. Now I take them right before falling asleep so I never notice the burps anymore. Glad to be on a program where I’m not constantly dreading all the pills I have to take every day.

Too expensive for an inferior product!

These are okay if you can tolerate them but they are SO expensive considering they do not have nearly enough vitamins and minerals in them! Two of my friends took these for their latest pregnancies (they were both on baby #4) and those were their only kiddos diagnosed with growth restriction in their third trimester. Could be a coincidence but I am not taking them because they caused heavy periods for me too, I now take Megafood, also from target and it’s so much better and cheaper! I’m just starting ttc but my latest iron labs looked good on Megafood but I wasn’t getting enough iron from these for some reason?!

Hi there. Thanks for sharing your experience. We understand that price is an important consideration when choosing a prenatal vitamin. Our pricing reflects the investment we make in traceable ingredients, clinically studied nutrient forms, rigorous third-party testing, and a transparent supply chain. Essential Prenatal was formulated to provide key nutrients commonly recommended during pregnancy, including Folate, Choline, Omega-3 DHA, Iron, Vitamin D3, and Vitamin B12. Because every person’s nutritional needs and pregnancy journey are unique, we always encourage customers to discuss any questions about supplementation and nutrient intake with their healthcare provider. We’re sorry to hear the product wasn’t the right fit for you, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.
