[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Western Digital simply stopped working. A search of my options revealed that a 1TB Seagate may be a good choice. Despite the tracking history reading more like an unfinished novel, the plot improved after what seemed to be multiple, extra days. Seagate on a Mac is sadly NOT a plug-and-play; rather, it took reformatting and made my Time Machine much less useful. I had hoped to leave it connected to the MBA for auto back-ups but I find myself removing the laptop from its charging station so often that the current set-up makes little sense. My hope is to put the Time Machine back to work on daily back-ups and to perform manual back-ups via the Seagate once a week. All in all, the price point seems fair... I just hope Seagate gives me what I paid for.

Part Number 2N1AP5-500, 2 Terrabyte model. Lived behind my computer for the past 3½ years. Just because I needed some more drive space. It served well in that format until yesterday. I was actively managing some files when all of a sudden, USB disconnect sound. No, it didn't come unplugged. But it was no longer talking to the computer and, the computer did not like the sudden hotswap while I was actively putting things on it... I had to force a shutdown and reboot, to find the whole computer being draggy. Windows troubleshooting and waiting until today, only then I found out it was this drive being a boat anchor for the whole system. Actively freezes programs, key ones too like file manager and task manager. The drive will no longer read or write. Just emits a monotonous clicking in rithym, obviously the reader going back and forth in a trance. I never really touched this on regular occasion, it just lived behind the computer, quietly holding files until that failiure happened. I don't know if the cable failed, or if the drive itself is dead. But if you're keeping stuff on this important, better copy it to another drive because it seems it may just decide to lock itself in its room like a pouting teenager. No more talking, your files are mine forever. The second I unplug the drive the computer jumps back to life. This drive, singlehandedly, crippled the entire OS. And it didn't even have any OS related software on it. So now im out a drive because my computer has abysmal internal capacity, and I'll probably have to pay a technician to go perform an autopsy on this drive to try and see if the disk in it is recoverable and transplantable. So I now have a rectangular slab of landwaste and a cable with a proprietary connector I can't use anywhere else... how is your day going then?

I purchased this portable drive as a safety backup after my 7 year old Seagate expansion drive stopped working. I also bought a new expansion drive. I loaded all my info on to this portable drive, and it worked great. Very quick and easy to use and switch between my desktop and my laptop.

Works great but I would not recommend you use it for more than about 3 years, after that it's thin ice. These are definitely better than the bootleg ones when it comes to longevity but around the three year mark you need to be careful of losing everything on it

First off I have always likes Seagates quality in their HDD. This drive model is no exception. My seagates run circles around my WD's are cheaper for the same capacity and last longer. This last purchase was to copy the info from my two oldest WD drives and consolidate them. I would highly recomend this drive model as it really is cheaper in the long run and is quite affordable for 5 TB storage.

I have a 2TB and I love it, so I'm getting a 5TB and transferring everything on to the 5TB and using the others as backup. I will keep prdering this.💯

I really like that it is so easy to make backup. You don't need any software to use this. Just plug and play. Has a large storage. You can use it on the go so it's very convenient. The value of this product is excellent! I highly recommend this product.
